ENVD Adaptive Reuse

This adaptive reuse project reimagines CU’s ENVD building following the merger of ENVD and CMCI into CMDI. The existing traditional campus architecture is carefully modeled and partially deconstructed, removing the third floor to introduce a contemporary intervention. The building is pulled apart at its core to reveal modern elements that contrast and dialogue with the original structure. Two new floors rise above the historic base, featuring a mountain-inspired roofline, expansive glass walls, and exterior balcony spaces. The addition houses new studio spaces, a woodshop and digital fabrication lab, and a fourth-floor presentation and exhibition gallery, positioning the building as a visible bridge between CU’s architectural heritage and its evolving design culture.
